3. Models and patterns
The shoe is built around the last: a model unique to your foot that provides the basis for the pattern used to cut the leather. A basic last is matched to your foot map, and adjusted if needed. Your last can be re-used, but may need reworking if your feet change size or shape, or to suit new styles or designs. A new last may be needed for some style changes. A flat pattern is then developed from the 3D model so the leather can be cut accurately. |
4. Mocking up
A mock-up may be made to check the design and fitting. The mock up will not be made from your chosen leather as it cannot be reused. A second visit is needed to try on the mock-up (about one hour). The mock-up may feel odd as it does not have all the support features of a finished shoe, but it will show whether the design will fit properly. Any minor alterations are then taken back to the pattern. Then it's time for me to start making your shoes! You can see the creation process here. |
